"Oh, sometimes they do," I tell her, laughing as she pushes herself off the wall and wobbles just a little before regaining her balance. I hesitate for a second, a little embarrassed as I confess, "That's actually my least favorite part. It's called checking. Back home, our captain actually had to set aside time a few times a week to help train me out of dropping to the ice like a fainting goat whenever it happened."
I don't mention that said captain is here, though. If only because then I'd maybe have to get into why he's not on the ice with me right now, why he hasn't been since he got here. Better to avoid.
"A lot of people really like that part, though. I'm guessin' you would! If you're really liking this, I'd be happy to teach you some stuff about the game."
