"Well, at the start maybe," I tell her with a quiet laugh, watching as she carefully steps onto the ice, holding onto the edge just as I'd advised. She slips a little, but recovers immediately and I skate just a few feet in front of her before turning to skate backward so I can watch her.
I hold my hands out then. "If it'll help, you can hold onto me instead for awhile until you get the feel of it down. I promise it'll come to you, it's just a matter of getting used to. There's probably physics involved or somethin', but I've never understood that part."
